The Madonie Park Authority is a public body that manages the Madonie Regional Park, located in Sicily. The park was officially created on 9 November 1989 in Petralia Sottana (province of Palermo) by the Sicily Region. It covers an area of 39,679 hectares and includes the Madonie mountain range and some of the highest mountains in Sicily. In addition to being a nature reserve, the park is a populated area and includes part of the territories of 15 municipalities located in the surrounding area.
These areas show a remarkable interest due to their morphological, paleontological, geological and biological characteristics, with particular regard to the quality of the flora, vegetation and fauna. The Madonie Park Authority provides for the conservation and enhancement of this natural heritage for scientific, cultural, economic and social purposes, including the education and recreation of citizens.
